7 Jobs in Tech You Can Get Now Without a Degree

You don’t need to take on a ton of new student loans to get into a new career in the tech industry.

We recently told you that if you’re looking for a field with plenty of new job opportunities, tech is where it’s at. But before you go out and sign up for a whole new crop of student loans, there’s something you should know. When it comes to jobs in tech, experience is everything. Many jobs in the industry value experience and understanding over credentials, and will consider you for positions with an associates degree or certificate.

Here are just a few great jobs in tech you can access now without a degree. The salaries listed here are estimates and can go up and down depending on your experience and where you live.

Computer Programmer (Median salary – $93,000)

Computer programmers are responsible for writing and testing the code that makes computer applications and programs work. Once they get the programs working, their job is not done. Programmers are constantly testing code to make sure it’s running optimally. Get on board with a company or go out on your own as a freelancer.

Systems Analyst (Median Salary – $99,270)

A systems analyst job is a lot like it sounds. A person in this role analyzes an organization’s information system and designs it in a way to make it as efficient and profitable as possible. Entry level jobs don’t always require a degree, so this is a role you can get into from the ground floor and work your way up.

Cybersecurity Analyst

Cybersecurity is important to companies, and they are willing to pay for it. In this position, you’ll assess the risks to your company’s digital security and develop the best responses to potential threats. You’ll work with your team to put security processes in place. And if there is a security breach, you’ll take action to make sure minimal damage is caused and get things back on track.

Graphic Designer (Median Salary – $50,710)

Graphic designers use computer software to create visual assets. They can be responsible for developing artwork for websites, corporate logos and product packaging. In this role, experience and a creative portfolio of work can take you a lot farther than a whole lot of education.

Software/Application Developer

Software and application developers create computer programs and apps that help companies solve problems, including efficiency and cost saving. A position like this also has the flexibility to work on staff at a company or in a freelance capacity.

Computer User Support Specialist (Median Salary – $49,770)

User support specialists can have flexibility in how they work, as they can often support their customers or external clients over the phone. In addition to having the technical knowledge it takes to provide support, this job is all about customer service. So if you don’t have a lot of patience, this may not be the job for you.

Computer Network Support Specialist (Median Salary – $62,760)

A network support specialist troubleshoots issues with a company’s overall network. They are often involved with software updates and new product roll-outs. They can also help train users on company-specific programs and work with a team to help keep the company’s network secure.
