Roy Wood Jr. is a longtime stand-up comedian who has been making people across the country laugh for years. Which is why he was the perfect host for The Root 100 in 2023 and why he’ll be returning for 2024 The Root 100 this Dec. 5. Leonardo DiCaprio bit
Wood wasn’t focusing on DiCarprio the person, but the character he played in the 2012 film, “Django Unchained,” in which he played a slave master. He almost felt bad for him and other white actors who have to play racist characters, saying, “These are normal a** white boys...you gotta walk on set and say n***a for 12 hours.”
Trump’s assassination attempt
Earlier this year, during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Wood focused on the assassination attempt on Trump and hilariously focused on how he should’ve milked the attempt on his life more than he did.
”I Have I Got News For You”
In September, Wood began hosting an American version of “I Have I Got News For You,” a show that makes comical observations of the news going on in the world. Naturally, in this clip, they made fun of the upcoming election and many other topics.
Who hates who?
Many people recognize Wood for his regular appearances on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” During this funny bit, Wood acts as a teacher who teaches the audience about geography in the funniest way possible.
White House Correspondents Dinner
This may count as cheating since this includes his entire appearance at the 2023 White House Correspondents Dinner and taking some shots at Don Lemon (of all people), saying, “Don was fine when y’all was letting him drink you shouldn’t have cut off his liquor.
”CP” time
Wood was generous enough to share with the world on “The Daily Show” how CP (Colored People) time works .
Golden Corral bit
I’m genuinely confused about how Golden Corral could save anyone’s life. But Wood seemed to explain how it changed his hilariously during this 2019 stand-up routine.
White person working at a Black history museum
Wood made an interesting point here. You don’t see a lot of white people working at Black history museums. So it was hilarious to see him break down how that would be an uncomfortable interview for the white employee.
T-Pain father story
This wasn’t during a stand-up routine, but it was still hilarious. During a 2022 interview, he shared a hilarious of how T-Pain’s Jamaican father charged him extra to get into a club.
Black superheroes
I’m not quite sure that Black superheroes have only saved Black people, but it’s funny to hear about Wood’s explanation of why he thinks they do.
The Stack Market
No, he isn’t talking about the stock market, but the stack market. Specifically stacking his Pringles chips.
”Flatbush Misdemeanor” meme
If you’re chronically on TikTok, you’ve definitely heard people use this sound. It’s a hilarious moment from the show “Flatbush Misdemeanor” that turned into a popular meme and sound on social media.
Black people love Trump?
During Trump’s first term as president, Wood was a guest on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” where he talked about Trump’s plan to take photo ops with Black people to show how much the community “loves” him.
Black music bit
Wood makes a good point here. If you want to learn about Black people, just look at the music we’ve produced over the years and you will learn exactly how we’re feeling at the time.
Prank calls
This is a pull from before Wood was seen on every TV station. In 2003, he released a comedy album titled, “My Momma Made Me Wear This,” which was a collection of hilarious prank calls. This one was specifically called, “Cuttin off Child Support.”
