As far as we’re concerned, the more Denzel Washington, the better. Recent news has revealed that John Boyega will star in a prequel series based on Washington’s film “The Book of Eli,” while Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will take on a series that predates his actor’s 2004 flick “Man on Fire.” This has us wondering if there are other Denzel projects we need to return to. Though many of his movies are serious dramas that have definitive endings, the stories are absolutely interesting enough to warrant revisiting. ‘The Equalizer’
When we meet Robert McCall in the first film, he’s already left the Company and is just beginning his life as “The Equalizer.” What if we go back and see some of his early missions, or get the full story on his last mission and how he faked his death?
’Training Day’
Was Alonzo always this corrupt? What was the moment when he stopped being a cop and went into business for himself? The original Antoine Fuqua-directed film portrays an officer who is downright despicable, but it’d be interesting to see how he ended up that way.
‘American Gangster’
Similar to how “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” shows us how a naive kid became the hardened criminal we met in “Power,” a prequel series could offer more insight into how Frank Lucas became the man we see in “American Gangster.”
‘Fallen’
Horror prequels are very popular right now, so following some of the people Azazel possessed before he came into contact with Denzel’s Hobbes could be an interesting psychological thriller.
‘The Pelican Brief’
Considering that this movie follows a far-reaching government conspiracy swirling around the Supreme Court, there’s never been a better time for a sequel to this one.
‘The Magnificent Seven’
A well-made R-rated western series chronicling Sam Chisholm’s early adventures as a U.S. Marshal would hit so hard.
‘Devil in a Blue Dress’
It seems like a no-brainer for a streaming service to adapt one of Walter Mosley’s other Easy Rawlins novels into a hard-boiled detective period piece.
‘Crimson Tide’
In the crazy divided world we live in now, it would make for a fascinating time to revisit Hunter now that he’s had years of command experience and his views may not be so idealistic.
‘Safe House’
We could definitely see something similar to “Furiosa,” where we really discover who Tobin Frost is, chronicling his career. Then the movie ends where “Safe House” begins.
‘The Preacher’s Wife’
This one’s going to be controversial, but we have to assume the Biggs weren’t Dudley’s last assignment. You can’t get better than Whitney Houston singing classic Christmas carols, but if the new story is set in a different region and with different musical styles, it could be fun.
