Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Resignation Gets Mixed Reaction From Black Folks

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s shocking announcement comes after months of growing tension between her and Trump. But why did she do it?

On the long list of announcements that weren’t on anyone’s bingo card is Ga. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s latest one. On Friday, Greene confirmed she will be resigning from Congress, effective Jan. 5, 2026. The move is already sending shockwaves across the Republican party.

Many supporters of the MAGA Congresswoman were left stunned especially amid her ongoing dissent from President Donald Trump, which we previously told you. But many Black folks on the other hand flooded social media to celebrate the unexpected news.

@GNCordova wrote on X, “I have very clear memories of her first bursting onto the scene and I’m glad this is over. Good riddance!”

“So she admits that everything she’s complaining is all her damn fault,” @BeanzGotGamez tweeted.

Greene has a long history of insensitive remarks. The Congresswoman was elected in 2021 partly because of her loyalty to the Trump. Well, that was until this year when she began criticizing him on key policies. Now, some online have speculated what her resignation truly means for the GOP.

@IamTHREEE said, “Whoa. Something f****d her up bad wtf???”

“Yeah she knows something….something is about to pop off,” @KryssyLaReina wrote. The representative was among the loudest voices putting pressure on the Trump administration to release the files associated with convicted sex offender Jeffery Epstein. She’s also called Trump out for the GOP Big, Beautiful Bill, which passed back in July.

After she called out Republicans and gained praise from several Democrats, X users said Greene was probably pushed out of her position. “That bullying is SOMETHING ELSE. Now, Marjorie knows how it feels,” @princellasmith said. “She knows she can’t fight Trump and his minions. This is how it feels to be on the ‘other side of him.’ Black people have had to deal with this mentality since we got off that ship. Relentless evil bullying rooted in White supremacy.”

“Big Marge had to hire security & got ran outta DC by her own party,” @CoshaPickles tweeted. “Crazy how she never had to fear for her life before; it’s almost as if it’s her base that’s the violent ones.”

Still, many folks were skeptical of Greene’s announcement. “I’m not moved,” @meeksz_ admitted. “This all feels like part of a piece.”

“Why,” @_kailzzzz questioned. “So she can free up time for a January 6th celebration?”

@TBlack0928 simply said “Lmao!!!”

Greene’s announcement came on the same day New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani met with Trump at the White House. The accused “fascist” and Democratic socialist reportedly had a pleasant and productive meeting despite their differences– which no one could have predicted either!

@covie_93 said, “If you told me last month that trump would be calling Marjorie Taylor Greene ‘wacky’ and Zohran Mamdani ‘a very rational person’ I’d think you were crazy.”
