A 21-year-old Philadelphia man was shot and killed yesterday over a pair of Beats by Dre headphones while children play nearby, NBC 10 reports.
Christian Massey was on his way to his friend's house when he was approached by a man who demanded his headphones. Massey ran and the man opened fire shooting five times. Massey was struck and his headphones laid next to him while the shooter fled on foot. He was transported to a local hospital where he would die shortly after arriving.
He had only owned the headphones for one day.
"To me, he was my child," Massey's grandmother, Eula Hodge told the news station. "Why did they have to shoot him? They didn't get what they shot him for so he was shot for nothing."
Hodge said her grandson had a tough life moving through the foster care system as a boy but despite that he still got good grades and cared deeply for his family. He had picked up the high-priced headset during holiday shopping.
His dream was to play basketball and someday make enough money to buy a house for himself and his sisters. Philadelphia police have no leads at this time, NBC 10 reports.
