James Brown Died On Christmas Day: Here’s His Fascinating Story

Whether you call him “The Hardest Working Man in Show Business,” “Soul Brother Number One” or “The Godfather of Soul,” you’d be hard pressed to find someone who would argue that James Brown wasn’t one of the most talented entertainers of our time. Known for his funky basslines and gritty vocals, he blessed us with decades of hits, including “Say it Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud” and “Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine,” that artists still sample today.

But while he had lots of success in music, James Brown had a troubled personal life, which included struggles with addiction and run-ins with the law. Nearly 20 years after his passing on Dec. 25, 2006, we’re looking at the life of legendary funk and soul singer James Brown.

    Southern Roots

James Brown was born on May 3, 1933, in Barnwell, South Carolina. After his parents divorced when he was 5, Brown was sent to Augusta, Georgia, where he was raised by his great-aunt who was the madam of a brothel. The singer has openly talked about growing up in poverty and how having to work odd jobs as a kid for little money fueled his desire for success.

“I started shining shoes at 3 cents, then went up to 5 cents, then 6 cents. I never did get up to a dime. I was 9 years old before I got a pair of underwear from a real store; all my clothes were made from sacks and things like that. But I knew I had to make it. I had the determination to go on, and my determination was to be somebody,” he said.

    Musical Beginnings

Brown was exposed to music as a child by neighbors who taught him to play instruments, including drums, piano, and guitar. He sang in the church choir and performed in local talent shows as a kid, but back then, he had dreams of becoming either a baseball player or boxer.

    Troubled Teen

Before he found fame, Brown was a troubled teen who frequently found himself on the wrong side of the law. At 16, he was arrested for breaking into a car and sentenced to three years in prison. While in prison, Brown found his voice – literally, when he started singing with a gospel choir.

    Meeting Bobby Byrd

While serving his time, Brown met Bobby Byrd. The two would go on to become friends and musical collaborators who made hits together for decades. After his release from prison, Byrd’s family looked after Brown, who joined Byrd’s group, The Gospel Starlighters. The group later changed its name to The Famous Flames. Their song “Please, Please, Please” caught the attention of record executives at King Records, which helped them land a record deal.

Byrd was the ultimate hype man, helping Brown make it funky with his soulful call and response.

By the beginning of the 1960s, James Brown was writing songs and performing between five and six nights per week, which led to him being dubbed, “The Hardest Working Man in Show Business.”

Fans loved the funk sound Brown pioneered which was rooted in rhythm, horn solos – and of course, his vocals that were just as powerful as a Sunday sermon.

Besides the funky baselines and gritty vocals in his music, fans kept coming back to see James Brown shows so they could watch him dance. Long before Michael Jackson or Usher, James Brown was known for captivating his audiences with his insane dance moves, making every performance an experience.

“When you heard James Brown was coming to town, you stopped what you were doing and started saving your money,” said his saxophonist, Pee Wee Ellis.

In the late 1960s, James Brown released one of his biggest hits, which went on to become an empowering anthem during the Civil Rights Movement.

Inspired by the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., James Brown released “Say it Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud” in August 1968. The track became a Black American anthem with lyrics that continue to inspire people today.

“We’ve been buked and we’ve been scorned.
    We’ve been treated bad, talked about;
    As sure as you’re born;
    But just as sure as it take two eyes to make a pair, huh;
Brother, we can’t quit until we get our share.”

In 1973, James Brown formed an unlikely friendship with the Rev. Al Sharpton, who he met when Sharpton was a young civil rights activist. Brown served as a mentor to Sharpton, who credits the singer with teaching him to get people to stand up and take notice.

“I learned from James Brown that you’re going to have to be dramatic in order to get people to see things that they are not inclined to see. Especially in New York where you are competing with Broadway lights and Times Square – we had to do extraordinary things to get attention,” Sharpton said in his documentary ‘Loudmouth.’

One of The World’s Most Sampled Artists

It’s hard not to move when one of James Brown’s songs comes on, which is probably why he’s one of the world’s most sampled artists. Even you weren’t around during his musical prime, you’ve heard his basslines running through your favorite hip-hop songs. “Funky Drummer,” one of his most sampled songs, can be heard in Public Enemy’s “Fight The Power,” Mos Def’s “Mathematics,” and LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out.”

    Even More Legal Trouble

After serving his time, Brown got back on the road to perform. But he found himself in trouble with the law again in 1998, when he was sentenced to 6 years in prison for carrying a deadly weapon at a public gathering, attempting to flee police, and driving under the influence of drugs. As TIME reported, Brown, who was high on PCP, went into an insurance company next to his office with a gun, accusing them of using his bathroom. He went on to lead the police on an interstate high-speed police chase from Georgia into South Carolina that ended when they shot out his tires.

    Troubled Relationships

James Brown married four women in his lifetime – Velma Warren (1953 to 1969), Deidre Jenkins (1970 to 1981), Adrienne Rodriguez (1984 to 1996) and Tomi Rae Hynie (2002 to 2004)

Domestic violence was a common thread through his relationships. Adrienne Rodriguez had him arrested four times for assault during their relationship, including one incident that ended with her in the hospital. Brown was also arrested in 2004 on domestic violence charges against Tomi Hynie. Brown also had a brief romantic relationship with Tammi Terrell, who described being “savagely beaten” by Brown during their time together.

James Brown passed away on December 25, 2006 in Atlanta, Georgia. The cause of death was reported as congestive heart failure – a result of complications related to a case of pneumonia. He was 73 years old.

    Drama With the Will

After Brown’s death, there was drama with his will. In the document, he left most of his estate to his “I Feel Good Trust,” which was created to fund scholarships for children in South Carolina and Georgia. But six of his children, who were only left with insurance policies and the items inside the home took issue. His fourth wife, Tomi Rae Hynie and their son, James Brown II were left out all together.

Surviving family members filed lawsuits to have Brown’s will thrown out, leading to a 15-year battle that was finally settled in 2021.

  • Forget What JD Vance Said — Here are 13 Times White Folks Never Apologized For Bad Behavior

Forget What JD Vance Said — Here are 13 Times White Folks Never Apologized For Bad Behavior

When Vice President JD Vance stood on the stage at a recent Turning Point USA even, he claimed white Americans no longer “have to apologize for being white anymore.” While the crowd filled with MAGA conservatives — most of whom are white — cheered Vance’s remarks, it begs the question: When did white Americans ever have to apologize for their race?

In truth, America has a long, documented history of ignoring its racist past in order to not offend white people. But Black folks know the very painful truth. From violence against Black soldiers during World War II to the COINTELPRO program in the 1970s, here are just a few of the many times white America demonized Black people and never apologized for it.

    False Obama Birtherism Claims

When former President Barack Obama announced his bid for presidency in 2007, he was met with a flood of racist and completely bigoted responses from white Americans who couldn’t fathom a Black U.S. president, BBC reported. Cue the birtherism movement…

An entire campaign to discredit Obama’s citizenship was ran, and arguably it was successfully. Even in 2025 — nearly 10 years since Obama left office — he’s still be subjected to the nasty conspiracy that he is not American and allegedly had deep ties to terrorist organization…. none of which are true for the record. What’s interesting is the former president never got a formal apology from any of the folks who championed the conspiracy, including from President Donald Trump, who is still targeting the Obama family today.

    Murder of Trayvon Martin

George Zimmerman looks at information on a laptop during jury selection in his trial in Seminole circuit court in Sanford, Fla., June 20, 2013. A judge in Florida has dismissed a defamation and conspiracy lawsuit former neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman had filed against the parents of Trayvon Martin, the teen he fatally shot almost a decade ago in a case that drew international attention about race and gun violence.

In 2012, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was gunned down with a pack of skittles and an Arizona tea can in his hands. The shooter, George Zimmerman, is a white Hispanic man who was acquitted of Martin’s killing under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law. Following the tragedy, Zimmerman did not shy away from public backlash. He also never apologized for taking the teenager’s life. In fact, Zimmerman made a profit after selling the Kel-Tec PF-9 pistol he used to kill Martin for $250,000.

    Kyle Rittenhouse

KENOSHA, WISCONSIN – NOVEMBER 19: Kyle Rittenhouse closes his eyes and cries as he is found not guilty on all counts at the Kenosha County Courthouse on November 19, 2021 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Rittenhouse was found not guilty of all charges in the shooting of three demonstrators, killing two of them, during a night of unrest that erupted in Kenosha after a police officer shot Jacob Blake seven times in the back while being arrested in August 2020. Rittenhouse, from Antioch, Illinois, claimed self-defense who at the time of the shooting was armed with an assault rifle. (Photo by Sean Krajacic – Pool/Getty Images)

Kyle Rittenhouse became a household name after he was charged with the murder of Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber during a Black Lives Matter protest in 2020, we previously reported. Rittenhouse, who was only 17 years old at the time, was acquitted of all charges. He launched a GoFundMe which expectedly brought a lot of backlash. Still, the company came to his defense saying “Once charges for a violent crime were brought against Kyle Rittenhouse in 2020, GoFundMe removed fundraisers that were started for the defendant’s legal defense.” But now that he’s been acquitted, his GoFundMe page can stay.

Rittenhouse has also been welcomed with open arms by white advocates of the Second Amendment. He recently announced his return to social media explaining that he’s even gotten married.

    Hollywood Actors in Blackface

Before Blackface became wildly inappropriate and condemned, white actors used the racist practice to advance their own careers. Folks like Joan Crawford, Al Jolson and Doris Day became Hollywood icons through their consistent portrayal of Black women and men. The once-popular practice featured white actors portraying Black people using the most horrendous stereotypes like bright red, overdrawn lips, very dark skin and even strange, wildly offensive accents and mannerisms.

    America’s ‘Apology’ for Slavery

Of course, it took until Obama came to the White House for Congress to actually acknowledge the dark past of chattel slavery. In 2009, Congress passed resolutions apologizing for slavery and subsequent segregation. But while these symbolic resolutions finally addressed the elephant in the room, they did very little to provide the descendants of slaves with any compensation or assistance for the generations-long damage slavery had.

In many cases, the descendants of slave owners continue to parade their ancestors with pride, even though they’ve been connected to such horrific acts against Black people in this country.

    Abandoning Reconstruction

PULASKI, TN – JULY 11: Members of the Fraternal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan participate in the 11th Annual Nathan Bedford Forrest Birthday march July 11, 2009 in Pulaski, Tennessee. With a poor economy and the first African-American president in office, there has been a rise in extremist activity in many parts of America. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center in 2008 the number of hate groups rose to 926, up 4 percent from 2007, and 54 percent since 2000. Nathan Bedford Forrest was a lieutenant general in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War and played a role in the postwar establishment of the first Ku Klux Klan organization opposing the reconstruction era in the South. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)

And speaking of slavery… The end of the U.S. Civil War ushered in a new– short-lived– era in the country. Reconstruction promised a real change in America, with Black political leadership, Black agency and the promise of future Black wealth.

These dreams were crushed and hardly ever acknowledged again when Southern white Americans pushed for a new code of law which reversed the progress. The creation of Jim Crow laws and the Klu Klux Klan completely derailed Black American progress, and no one has apologized for the decades of terror and tragedy that the Black community endured because of Reconstruction’s end.

Legacy Admissions at Ivy League Institutions

It’s no secret that Ivy League institutions — the oldest universities in the country — were originally built with white Americans in mind. So once slavery ended and Black people were now free to seek their our education, these great institutions had a problem. How could they possibly let Jewish and Black people integrate with their white student body? The answer was simple: they couldn’t.

Instead, Ivy League institutions became serious about their legacy admissions, which heavily favor children of Ivy League alumni. Yes, many white legacies still get rejected, but the advantage is undeniable. In response, Affirmative Action and other civil rights policies were put in place to help even out the unbalanced scale between white, well off students and the “other.” Affirmative Action was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2023.

During the height of the 2024 presidential campaign season, then-candidate Trump and running mate Vance upset many Black people after repeating the debunked claim that Haitian immigrations in Springfield, Ohio were eating the pets of residents, NPR reported. Trump even repeated the claim on live television during a debate with VP Harris. He nor Vance have apologized for spreading the offensive rumor.

    The Jan. 6 Capitol Riot

    Photo: AP AP Photo/Julio Cortez
Insurrectionists loyal to President Donald Trump try to break through a police barrier, Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, at the Capitol in Washington. Facing prison time and dire personal consequences for storming the U.S. Capitol, some Jan. 6 defendants are trying to profit from their participation in the deadly riot, using it as a platform to drum up cash, promote business endeavors and boost social media profiles.

In response to Trump losing the 2020 election to former President Joe Biden, thousands of MAGA supporters flooded the U.S. Capitol — under Trump’s advisement — to stop the certifying the electoral votes. These rioters broke into the Capitol, forced lawmakers to hide for their safety and even attacked Capitol officers. Over 1,500 people were arrested and charges with crimes connected to the television revolt… but then Trump was elected in 2024.

On day one of his second term, the president signed an executive order pardoning, commuting the prison sentences and vowing to dismiss the cases of all people charged with crimes connected to the infamous insurrection, according to the White House.

Trump’s first presidential campaign successfully ran on the promise to “Make America Great Again.” Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi cleverly dubbed the MAGA motto as “Make America White Again,” which is a sentiment shared among Trump critics. The 47th president was able to win two presidential terms on the promise to protect white America and bring the country back to a time before the alleged “woke agenda,” DEI and immigration confusion.

According to the U.S. government, COINTELPRO — the Counter Intelligence Program — was the FBI’s response to alleged terroristic threats and politically motivated insurrections threatening the safety of all Americans. The FBI promised to go after the Klu Klux Klan and other dangerous groups, but instead, the government seemed to fixate on the Black Panther Party, and the affects were deadly.

During the ’60s and ’70s, COINTELPRO surveilled Black Panther leaders like Fred Hampton and Mark Clark and assassinated them. Their families were never compensated or given formal apologies.

Crack Cocaine Funneled Into Black Communities

UNITED STATES – JULY 27: Vial of crack cocaine. (Photo by Misha Erwitt/NY Daily News Archive via Getty Images)

Do we need to say more?

The crack epidemic of the 1980s destroyed Black communities in droves, but it wasn’t until decades later that the truth about who exactly supplied the drugs to the Black community was exposed. Agencies like the CIA were not directly responsible for the influx of drugs into the Black community… but they surely did facilitate it, NPR reported.

The CIA enabled drug trafficking by Nicaraguan Contras, which in turned fueled cocaine coming into the streets of America. Local drug dealers soon discovered how to turn pure cocaine into crack– a cheap, smokable alternative to the drug– which disproportionately impacted Black neighborhoods. Of course, no one could’ve known that these drug issues would lead to mass incarceration and the war on drugs.

    Double V Campaign

When the U.S. went into the Second World War, Black folks were still subjected to Jim Crow at home. Still, many Black men decided to serve their country by joining the military and going overseas, according to the New Orleans WWII Museum. When they returned, however, they weren’t treated with the same respect that white veterans were treated with. In fact, there are countless stories of Black soldiers being killed, beaten and tortured just for wearing their uniform in public, the Zin Education Project found. Their families were never compensated.

  • Trump Finally Responds to Federal Judge’s Ultimatum on SNAP Benefits

Trump Finally Responds to Federal Judge’s Ultimatum on SNAP Benefits

After two federal judges issued President Donald Trump an ultimatum regarding SNAP benefits, the Trump administration has finally put forth a plan to keep millions of Americans from starving… at least for now.

We previously told you millions went without SNAP benefits starting Nov. 1 after Congress failed to come to an agreement over funding. The pause to food assistance marked the first time in history SNAP had ever been cut off. Expectedly, Democrats, Republicans, human rights activists and federal judges pushed back against the president, who ultimately had the power to overturn this unprecedented issue.

Several states took legal action against the administration. In Massachusetts, Judge Indira Talwani ruled that the government is required to tap into emergency money for SNAP, even if it’s just making partial payments. She gave Trump until Monday (Nov. 3) to come up with a plan to make it happen.

In response to the judge’s ruling, Trump took to his social media app, Truth Social, saying he “instructed our lawyers to ask the Court to clarify how we can legally fund SNAP as soon as possible.” He went on to blame Democrats for the shutdown: “If we are given the appropriate legal direction by the Court, it will BE MY HONOR to provide the funding, just like I did with Military and Law Enforcement Pay,” he wrote

The administration told a federal court in accordance with the Monday deadline that it will partially pay out SNAP benefits to the nearly 42 million Americans on the program. He only promised to fund assistance only during the month of November, according to the court filing. SNAP recipients are now set to receive 50 percent of what they normally would under the president’s new court order.

Under past government shutdowns, emergency money has always been used to provide food assistance for Americans. The Trump administration previously argued that money in the $5 billion contingency fund could not be used for SNAP. But after another judge in Rhode Island pushed back against Trump’s claims about funding, the administration drastically changed its tune.

In a separate lawsuit, Judge John J. McConnell, Jr. ruled in favor of Democracy Forward, the organization which requested a temporary restraining order in light of the pause to benefits, CBS News reported. On Saturday (Nov. 1), McConnell gave Trump the same Monday deadline to figure out a way to use contingency funds for SNAP. Both McConnell and Talwani ruled it’s up to the Trump administration to decide exactly how much money will be distributed.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees SNAP, sent out a memo last week declaring “the well has run dry.” For over a month, Congress has been at a stand still regarding federal funding. Democrats want Republicans to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies for Americans; Republicans want the government to open up before any negotiations can be made.

“Right now, the problem is everybody wants to win,” W.V. Sen. Jim Justice said of the current debacle. “And you’ve got a lot of people really hurting, and that really upsets me,” the Republican continued.

All the Show-Stopping Black Celebs’ Fashions at the 2025 LACMA Art + Film Red Carpet

While most people were outside still celebrating Halloween on Saturday (Nov.1), a handful of Black stars and celebrities gathered in Los Angeles to celebrate at the 2025 LACMA Art + Film Gala, honoring movie director Ryan Coogler.

The 14th annual event, put on by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, highlights creatives whose work has reshaped their respective fields. Given the massive success of Coogler’s movie “Sinners,” it was only fitting that Coogler be one of this year’s honorees alongside painter and artist Mary Corse.

During his acceptance speech, Coogler beautifully reflected on his journey in filmmaking, finding community in Los Angeles, and making beautiful art while “existing in that zone of art, utility and commerce” as a Black person in America.

But seeing as how this event is one of L.A.’s most prestigious galas and was presented in partnership with Gucci, you already know some of our favorite Black stars showed up and showed out on the red carpet! These DIY Black Hairstyles and Hacks Will Save You a Ton of Money!

Let’s be real: with the tariff wars, everything starting to get more expensive — and that includes haircare, too. However, there are still styles and hacks that will save you some coins and make sure your hair is on point. That’s why we’ve created a list of ideas for you to try in case you need a new style that is also budget-friendly. And fellas, we’ve got you covered too.

    Styling Your Locs

    @ittybittymarii

    ✨ Day 6 of VLOGtober — My go-to favorite loc styles in between retwist 🖤 I need my hair done BADDD😭 #locstyles #protectivestyles #loclife #naturalhair #vlogtober

    ♬ original sound – 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒄𝒉𝒊 ღ 🏳️‍🌈

Maybe you’re trying to get the most out of your locs before booking an appointment with your loctician, and if that’s the case, we’ve got you. Here are some cute styles that will make your locs last a little longer between retwists.

    Winter Haircare

    @viiral.vt

Cold weather dries your locs out fast. Keep them misted and sealed to stay healthy this winter #fyp #trending #locs #vino #winter

However, retwists might not be your only concern. It’s getting colder, which means your haircare routine will have to change to make sure your hair stays healthy and hydrated.

    Quick Weaves

Bundles can be expensive, and if you’re ballin on a budget, a quick weave is a style you could consider. Quick weaves are cheaper, versatile and chic.

Got some braiding hair leftover? Don’t let it go to waste! Instead, you can use the spare bundles to achieve stunning looks with your natural hair, like this braided bun.

    Beard Care

    @selfhaircutsbydane

We never talk about it but a lot of us black men never learned how to properly groom ourselves. If you suffer from ingrowns, get some clippers and make them as close as possible #creatorsearchinsights #rightwaytoshave #blackmenshavingtips

Guys, beard care is just as important as hair care, and these are some shaving tips to make sure you keep your skin smooth while also keeping your beard clean.

    Mini Twists

    @imanialexia_

i always have to style them after to see if its really hitting the way they’re supposed to lets see if i can keep these in longer than 2 weeks 🫣

    ♬ D – D

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance style for your natural hair this winter, then mini twists are the way to go. They’re pretty, long-lasting, and will keep your hair moisturized.

    Braid Your Hair

If you don’t already, it could be a good time to learn how to braid. Now, you don’t have to do elaborate styles, but a simple style can last you a long time and save you from having to book an appointment each month.

    Recycle Your Wig

Ladies, before you throw away a perfectly good lacefront, why not recycle it? Turn that wig into a leave-out and get at least another month of use from it.

    Water and Oil Retwist

    Screenshot: TikTok (@Jlavish_)

Again, it is important to make sure your hair is well moisturized, and one easy way to do that is by making sure you retwist your hair using just oil and water.

    Pixie Cut Styles

    Screenshot: TikTok (@quincijane)

Pixie cuts are fabulous, and it’s common for them to be slicked down after hours of moulding and texturizing. And while that does look good, finger coiling your pixie is just as elegant and something you can do from home in half the time.

    Silk Presses

It is silk press season, but sometimes silk presses don’t last as long as you would want them to. However, they can easily be brought back to life with some dry shampoo and a quick run over with some straighteners.

    Shape Ups

It’s not always worth going to the barber for something you can do from the comfort of your home. These are some tips to follow so that you can start doing your own shape ups.

    Braid Styles:

Listen…braids take a long time to take out and even longer to get them done. You might not have that time. So here is a style to try on your knotless to get extra wear out of them.

A time was had at South Carolina State University over the weekend!! I didn’t attend an HBCU during my college years (I went to a PWI), so this was my first time going to SCSU Homecoming. • Black America Responds to the Government Shutdown…and Whew!

Black America Responds to the Government Shutdown…and Whew!

If you woke up this morning hoping that the government shutdown was just a bad dream, think again. As of Wednesday (Oct. 1), the government has officially closed its doors, which means that the money flow has stopped for certain federal agencies.

As President Donald Trump and the Democrats duke it out over healthcare funding — among other things — Black Americans who stand to endure the worst effects of the shutdown are sounding off on social media about how it all will impact their pockets.

“Omg, the government is shut down! Time to dial it in on our finances. SMH,” one person wrote on X

The shutdown threatens layoffs, service cuts and a major blow to Medicaid and Medicare, all thanks to staffing shortages. Food assistance programs like the Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children are looking at empty coffers real soon, according to The New York T and BBC. For Black folks, it’s the same old song and dance.

“Every day it’s something,” posted one user on X, in reponse to the news.

“I knew the sequel (Donald Trump’s second term as president) would be even more chaotic,” responded another.

Congressional candidate Isaiah Martin called it Donald Trump’s shutdown: “Trump controls all three branches of government! THIS IS HIS SHUTDOWN”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris shared similar sentiments as she posted that it was Republican Congressmembers who caused the shutdown:

“President Trump and Congressional Republicans just shut down the government because they refused to stop your health care costs from rising,” Harris told her followers. “This is their shutdown.”

This shutdown is the second government shutdown to happen under Donald Trump, with the first being in December of 2018, which one X user pointed out was the longest shutdown in U.S. history:

“Fun fact: The longest shutdown in U.S. history lasted 35 days, from December 22, 2018, to January 25, 2019, during President Donald Trump’s administration.”

While chaos ensues, folks are also thinking about those who will be most impacted:

“Sending love and support to anyone impacted by the government shutdown.”

Rep. Jasmine Crockett Town Hall Turns Explosive After MAGA Host Crashes it— Wait Until You Hear What She Said

Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s town hall in Dallas was going smoothly while she was speaking with constituents about issues in her district and policy. But after a right-wing commentator crashed the event, chaos immediately ensued, and it was all caught on camera. But that’s just the beginning.

Sara Gonzales, a host for Blaze TV, an American conservative media company founded in 2018 with strong conservative views, crashed the Aug. 14 event as Crockett was speaking about her grandmother. Gonzales can be seen in a video she uploaded on X interrupting Crockett, shouting out, “Jasmine! The people of Dallas deserve better than a fake ghetto hood rat.” The Democratic lawmaker looked over at her and smirked before the crowd erupted in boos.

“No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,” Crockett could be heard saying. “Listen, listen, listen, listen, listen.” Gonzales doubled down on her insults, asking, “Do they know you’re a rich kid from Missouri?”

She asked a second time, “Do your people know you’re a spoiled rich kid from Missouri?,” referencing how Crockett is from St. Louis and moved to Texas for law school.

One woman screamed at Gonzales, “Get your ass out of here!” while one man told her to, “Get out! Get out!” as she was escorted out by security. And she didn’t leave silently. “Don’t touch me! Get her off me!” Gonzales responded. “Get off me! Get the f*ck off me!”

She even asked officers, “Are you proud?” as she was forced to leave the town hall. Gonzales was told by police to leave the property, and threatened to place her in handcuffs if she did not comply with their orders to leave. But wait, there’s more.

A white woman who goes by “blonde conservative” online also confronted Crockett at the same event. She posted video of her own interaction of when she asked Crockett, “Why do you hate white people? Why are you racist towards white people? Why are you racist towards white people?”

She willing left after someone off-camera told her she needed to skedaddle, too.

Crockett, who was speaking at the Dallas County Blue Texas Organizing Rally to urge her supporters to turn Texas blue to defeat the GOP in the 2026 midterm elections, according to Dallas Weekly, responded to the haters.

“Listen, this is part of the problem,” Crockett said in the video. “This is part of the problem. I want y’all to be part of the solution. We’re going to show these people that ignorance will not win today.”

  • Whoopi Goldberg Claps Hard at Barack Obama, You Won’t Believe What She Says About Him

Whoopi Goldberg Claps Hard at Barack Obama, You Won’t Believe What She Says About Him

Whoopi Goldberg isn’t really feeling former President Barack Obama right now. And now, she’s using her biggest platform to express why.

Goldberg shared her harsh words for Obama on Tuesday’s episode of “The View.” Her words were prompted by comments he made at a private fundraiser in New Jersey over the weekend where he accused Democrats of “whining” about Trump and all of his bad decisions. He also said that they need to change their messaging, stop looking for a “Messiah,” do a little less “navel-gazing” and “toughen up.”

She also mentioned an interview with “Shark Tank” entrepreneur and billionaire Mark Cuban who echoed similar sentiments as the president and decided to call both men out and explain the error in their messaging.

“Let me remind everybody who was out on the front lines marching, when we had the giant marches that went on. It was the people. The people went out. They were not navel-gazing, it was older people who were saying, ‘Why are you touching my social security?’” Goldberg said in response to the comments. “It was not people whining, it was about people saying, ‘Why are you taking these rights away from my child when my child was born here?’”

She later added: “This has not been about Democrats laying back. This has been about y’all. This has been about y’all because their [Democrats] messaging has always been the same. Democrats have been angry at what this man tried to do the last time, they’ve been angry this time. With much due respect to you both, you are pointing the finger to the wrong person when you say Democrats.”

Goldberg later expressed that folks like Obama and Cuban need to change their vantage point and realize that Democratic voters and the people who support their ideologies have been doing much more than just complaining about Trump. She also noted that the only people who need to switch up what they’re saying are folks like Obama and Cuban, and not those who’ve been on the front lines speaking out and showing up for the cause.

Neither Obama nor Cuban have responded to Goldberg’s comments. Check out the conversation below.
