Everyone is talking about a photo capturing a moment between former President Barack Obama and President-elect Donald Trump sitting next to each other at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral. The two, who have been bitter political rivals for years, are actually smiling. And while we don’t have any audio capturing what they were actually saying to each other, we thought it would be fun to guess. Here’s what we think Trump could have said to get a laugh out of our forever president. But before we get into our guesses, we thought we’d check out what the professionals have to say.
“This is a Matter of Importance”
The New York Post spoke with forensic lip reader Jeremy Freeman, who says Trump told Obama that the two needed to “find a quiet place” to talk about “a matter of importance.” According to Freeman, Trump tells Obama, “I’ve pulled out of that. It’s the conditions. Can you imagine that?” and got the 44th President to laugh when he said, “and after, I will.”
Freeman wasn’t able to determine what specific issue Trump was talking about, but if we had to guess, maybe Obama was laughing about the fact that Trump wanted to talk about a “matter of importance.”
“I’ve Already Got My People Working on a New Flag Design”
Now what we think Trump might have said or meant is all in jest, so please don’t come for us. Trump has made it clear that he’s interested in acquiring new territory for the United States, including Canada and Greenland. He’s even gone as far as trolling Canada’s outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on social media, calling him “the governor of the “Great State of Canada.”
But if Trump shared his plans with former President Obama, there’s no way he’d be able to keep a straight face, especially knowing that Canada is perfectly content as a sovereign nation and Canadians aren’t exactly ready to jump on the Trump train. The Montreal City News reported the results of a Leger Poll that found only 13 percent of Canadians were ok with the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state.
“Wait Until You See How Many People Show Up to My Inauguration This Time. It’s Gonna Be Huge!”
In a hilarious moment during his speech at the Democratic National Convention, former President Obama made a joke about Trump’s obsession with crowd sizes, while making a gesture with his hands that made some people think there was a whole lot more behind his comments.
But behind every joke, there’s some truth. It was widely reported that photographs of then-President Trump’s inauguration were edited to remove empty space, because there was no way he was going to let it look like former President Obama got more people to come out for him in 2009 – especially after his Press Secretary Sean Spicer insisted Trump drew “the largest audience ever to witness an inauguration, period, both in person and around the globe.”
There’s no way he’s going to let Obama beat him again.
“You Don’t Want to Miss My Inauguration. The Village People are Performing”
One of Donald Trump’s favorite songs to play on the campaign trail is “YMCA.” the 1978 disco hit by The Village People. Social media is full of cringey videos of the President-elect “dancing” to the song at his rallies, like this one:
While we don’t have any confirmation that The Village People will be on hand to celebrate Trump’s return to the White House, the idea isn’t completely farfetched. But considering President Obama had artists like Aretha Franklin, Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson performing at his inaugurations, the idea of a 70s disco group headlining Trump’s inauguration is hilarious.
“You Know I Have The Highest IQ Of All The Presidents in This Room”
President-elect Trump is not shy about bragging on his intelligence, repeatedly referring to himself as a “very stable genius.” Attacking the intelligence of his rivals (whether justified or not) is one of his favorite things to do. He referred to his Democratic opponent Vice President Kamala Harris (who has a law degree and a very impressive resume, by the way) as a “low IQ individual” at a rally in North Carolina during the 2024 election cycle.
And who could forget his 2013 social media post attacking all of his “haters.”
“Sorry losers and haters, but my I.Q. is one of the highest -and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault,” he said in a May 8, 2013 post on X.
Considering that former President Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School (where he graduated magna cum laude), he would have no choice but to laugh out loud at a statement like that.
But while we’re trying to figure out what Obama and Trump were talking about, can we take a minute to guess what we think Vice President Kamala Harris was thinking when she turned around and saw the two of them playing nice together?
