He was found Thursday morning in Havana and is said to have suffered from depression.

Díaz-Balart was a nuclear physicist who served as a scientific adviser to the Council of State and Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba.

He was Fidel Castro’s firstborn son and namesake. The elder Castro died Nov. 25, 2016.
