Hardy was arrested in September after authorities said a search of his car turned up a “purple plastic Baggie containing a white pasty substance” that weighed 0.7 grams, the newspaper reports. A Richardson (Texas) Municipal Court judge issued the indictment based on this arrest.

Hardy, who played for the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys, was found guilty of assaulting an ex-girlfriend in 2014. He was sentenced to 18 months’ probation and suspended for 10 games, all of which was overturned when the victim refused to testify.

If Hardy is found guilty of cocaine possession, he could face up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
