The Indianapolis Colts released cornerback Antonio Cromartie last month, and his wife says she thinks she knows why: his protest during the national anthem. Terricka Cason Cromartie took to Instagram to respond to Colts owner Jim Irsay’s comments that NFL games aren’t the place for protest.

“You are nothing more than an entertainer. Just shut up and do what we say,” she wrote. “One things for sure I know my husband was told Not to take a Knee and he went with his heart and he took one. And that cost him his Job.. and Clearly this Statement backs that up… Just Paid to put on a show.”
The Indy Star reports that Cromartie has not expressed his wife’s feelings publicly. The Colts declined comment Thursday. Some believe that Cromartie’s football play was the reason he was let go, since he was benched Oct. 2 for dismal play against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Indy Star adds that the Colts were welcoming back two veteran cornerbacks, Patrick Robinson and Darius Butler, returning from injuries, which would have left Cromartie on the bench.
