Workers at the Hickory Tree Child Care Center noticed some of the children holding little plastic baggies with white powder inside, so they confiscated the bags and called police, who discovered that the baggies contained heroin, according toย ABC 6.

Children who came into contact with the baggies were taken to the hospital as a precaution and released later the same day, the news station reports. Selbyville, Del., police arrested the 4-year-old girl's mother, Ashley Tull, 30, of Selbyville, and charged her with "maintaining a drug property and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child," according to the news station.

"A total of 249 bags of heroin weighing 3.735 grams was located in the backpack," ABC 6 reports.

Tull was released after posting $6,000 bail, and her three childrenโ€”a 9-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl who lived with her, as well as her 4-year-old daughterโ€”were placed with a relative while authorities continued to investigate the case. More charges could be filed, the news station reports.
