It didn't take a whole lot of creativity for his family as well as many Americans familiar with the historically troubled relationship between black men and law enforcement to come up with an idea to fill in the blank in that story, and conclude that the officers on the scene must have shot him.

Not so, says the Jonesboro Police Department. Their theory is that Carter managed to get a small handgun into the squad car, pulled it out while handcuffed and shot himself. For anyone who thinks that sounds absurd, they've now released a video re-enactment showing how they say it could have happened.

Case closed? Yeah, we didn't think so, either. (First of all, Carter's mom has said he was left-handed, and this video depicts a shooting with the right hand to the right side of the head.) Thankfully, the FBI is also investigating the case, and we assume it's looking at a lot more than creative re-enactments.
