After all the outrageous, false and disrespectful things that have been said about President Obama, we can't say we were too shocked or shaken when Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus compared him to the Italian captain who is accused of abandoning his sinking cruise ship (in order to make a partisan point about the president "abandoning" his job by campaigning).
But the commentary got some serious attention from Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski, who called his remarks "disgusting" and asked him to "take it back."
“I mean, really,” said Brzezinski. “Do we need to talk about that comment by Reince Priebus? Who I like a lot. But that was just absolutely wrong. That just lowered it even lower.”
“It’s the politics of contempt,” [Chris] Matthews agreed.
“That was disgusting, I’m sorry. Take it back,” Brzezinski continued, placing the blame on the RNC as a whole.
Listen to the remarks here.
Is there any point in asking people to retract or apologize for anti-Obama comments that are deemed out of line? Or is it better to let the public draw conclusions about the relationship between "disgusting" words and the people who choose to use them?
