Rep. Waters, the first-ever recipient of the award, has tirelessly resisted white supremacy and spoken out against the current presidential administration. The award acknowledges her political career and her work in the past year.
“I can’t tell you how much of an honor it is to be the first recipient of such a prestigious recognition,” said Waters in her acceptance speech.
