According to an article on our sister site Double X, The New York Times reported today that circumcision rates have declined drastically in the United States, from 56 percent in 2006 to 32.5 percent last year. What’s the problem? Although the exact relationship between circumcision and the prevention of certain diseases — from AIDS on down — is not perfectly understood, it is clearly understood that societies in which the majority of boys are circumcised have lower rates of such diseases than other societies. If more circumcisions can lead to less disease, then why aren't more people having them?
