(The Root) — Chris Brown subtweeted Rihanna today, and Twitter turned it into an hour of hilarious wordplay.

The two have been playing out their on-again/off-again romance on Twitter lately, following and unfollowing each other, leaving onlookers to speculate as to what is going on. This morning, Brown sent out a cryptic tweet that read “she’s not mine if she’s everyone else’s,” which many assumed was about Rihanna. Some had sympathy for Brown, while others — not so much. Users kicked around some clever remixes of sad versions of celebrity names after Brown’s emotional subtweet.

While no one should be lambasted for their emotions — especially in an age in which men are so heavily pressured to suppress them in the name of machismo — some of the tweets were just too creative and clever not to enjoy. Check out some of the best ones below.
