A former newspaper feature writer, Mills went on to write for some of the finest TV dramas of the era, including โ€œHomicide: Life on the Street,โ€ โ€œNYPD Blue,โ€ โ€œERโ€ and โ€œThe Wire.โ€

"Treme" is currently in production in New Orleans and will have an April 11 premiere.

Mills attended the University of Maryland and went on to write for The Washington Post, among other outlets. His first TV writing credit was for โ€œHomicide" in 1994, according to the Internet Movie Database. In addition to his other credits, he was creator and executive producer of the 2003 NBC miniseries โ€œKingpin.โ€ Mills was a member of a small โ€œTremeโ€ writing staff that also included novelist and โ€œThe Wireโ€ veteran George Pelecanos, and New Orleans writers Tom Piazza and Lolis Eric Elie.
