The Queen of Soul: Pancreatic Cancer Reports Were Just Rumor

Fresh from our "Just stop talking" file, legendary Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin has lost 85 pounds since surgery for a mystery illness in December of last year. In an interview on The Wendy Williams Show, Franklin said she's finally slimmed down after a "really hard" struggle with her weight. She told Williams that she lost the weight by removing hot sauce and pigs feet from her diet.

"I've been looking at a lot of pictures, and I was saying, 'You were entirely too fat for words,' " Franklin recalled, according to People. "I was doing everything you could to lose that weight, and it's hard." Franklin didn't go into specifics about the mystery illness and says she has left rumors of pancreatic cancer "behind."

Just how did rumors of pancreatic cancer get started if the Queen of Soul was only embarking on a diet and health regimen? How much hot sauce and pigs feet do you have to have been eating to lose 85 pounds in two months? We're glad she's taking control of her health, but something doesn't sound right.

Perhaps the rumors should have been about weight-loss surgery as opposed to pancreatic cancer, which is a horrible diagnosis and painful death. If you're going to talk about health matters, then you should tell the truth, not partial truths or outright lies. She's the Queen of Soul — she doesn't have to say anything. If she's going to be evasive and not address rumors that came out of nowhere about a deadly diagnosis, then perhaps she should just stop talking about it. We'd rather hear her sing anyway.
