Karma spun the block extremely quickly after a St. Louis-area dad was fatally shot in his own home. The shocking crime twist all began in mid-March when Lavor Harmon was accused of statutory raping a girl under 17 years old. Two months later, Harmon was charged with statutory rape and three counts of statutory sodomy and placed under a bond of $150,000. What happened next has a community reeling.

Harmon, 39, was ordered to have zero contact or communication with the alleged victim, including through third parties, per reports. Instead, Harmon, his sister, Lavonda Harmon who lives in Texas, and an unidentified male knocked on the door of the alleged victim’s father’s home in an attempt to bribe him to stop working with prosecutors. They reportedly offered the dad $12,000 for his silence. The father, whose name was withheld from reports to protect the child, swiftly declined. Lavonda, 44, was arrested and charged with tampering with a witness on July 11, according to prosecutors. But the story didn’t end there.
On July 8, the girl’s father was shot multiple times at his home on Bayview Drive while the alleged victim and another minor was present. He later died at the hospital. A white Kia was observed driving from the dad’s home and later that same day, the shooting suspect was found dead himself in St. Louis. That white Kia was also discovered “burned nearby.”
Now, prosecutors conclude after investigating that the death of the alleged victim’s father is indeed tied to Harmon and his family. “None of these are random,” Patricia Washington with the Ferguson Police Department told local news station KSDK. “All of these are people who are known to each other.”
Lavonda was released from police custody after posting a $100,000 bond. Her next court date is Aug. 4. As far as her brother, Harmon will appear in court on July 31. He remains behind bars.
