According to Broadway, Beyoncé’s father, Matthew Knowles wants to “pull back the curtain,” and tell the story of Destiny’s Children through his eyes. This the group that brought us continuous hits that stuck like grits was originally comprised of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett, the later two replaced by Farrrah Franklin and Michelle Williams. Franklin got voted off the island and the foursome quickly became a trio.
Knowles got on his soapbox and said: “I feel it’s time to give the world an opportunity to hear, see and feel the victories and failures that I’ve had as a husband, father and manager.”
Beyoncé’s father has entitled the production Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical. I understand why this name is a thing because the group had more turnovers than a cooking rotisserie chicken, but I felt that it should have paid homage to a moment in Black History that can never be forgotten.
It was truly a missed opportunity not naming this production “someone can send your luggage,” but I digress.
No word yet on the cast, but whoever fills these roles has some very large shoes to fill. Destiny’s Child story was basically Dreamgirls on steroids and there’s no part of my body that isn’t ready for Kelly to tell Michelle that we “all got pain.”
Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical will be premiering in the group’s hometown of Houston in 2020 before it makes its way across the pond to London.
