According to the Associated Press, Police Officer John Lee has been issued an “indefinite suspension for placing himself unnecessarily in a tactical situation wherein he felt compelled to use deadly force,” Police Chief William McManus wrote in a statement. 

On Feb. 4, officers arrived at a San Antonio apartment complex where they were supposed to serve 36-year-old Antronie Scott warrants on drug and felony weapons charges. Officer Lee, a 10-year veteran of the department, shot Scott, who was standing outside his car holding a cellphone.

Police spokeswoman Romana Lopez said that “an indefinite suspension is equivalent to being fired,” but could not specify a timetable for termination, AP reports.
