As the nation celebrated Independence Day on Friday, first daughter Malia Obama enjoyed the day for a different reason: She turned 16.
She also got a new car, the Daily Mail reports. Details of the make, model and color were not immediately disclosed. But you wonβt see her driving on her own just yet. At 16 in Washington, D.C., she can receive a learnerβs permit, but an adult must be present in the front seat at all times, and she can only be on the road during certain hours, according to the Mail.

No details were revealed about how Malia spent the day, but we do know that she kicked off her birthday celebration earlier this week with a trip toΒ DisneylandΒ with a friend,Β E! Online reports.
She and her sister, Sasha, are growing up right before the nationβs eyes. In MayΒ President Barack Obama said thatΒ Malia attended her prom, and in June she had an opportunity to work on the set of Extant, CBSβs new sci-fi series starring Halle Berry.
