Daquan Antonio Westbrook, also known as Donkey Cartel, was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident began just after 2 p.m. on Thursday after Westbrook allegedly shot another man before an off-duty police officer killed him, the report says.

Off-duty officer Thomas Ferguson was at the mall when he heard multiple shots, Keith R. Trietley, a public affairs officer for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, told reporters.

Ferguson responded to a shoe store where Westbrook allegedly pointed a firearm at him. Ferguson then shot Westbrook, according to Newsweek.

Ferguson has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the shooting investigation.

Authorities are still piecing together details of the case but said it was “not a random act of violence” and that Westbrook and the man involved in the initial shooting knew each other, notes the report.

Westbrook had recently released the mixtape Convicted Felon With a Weapon, the report says.
