(The Root) — This year marks the 50th anniversary of the year 1963 and the momentous things that happened therein. The assassination of Medgar Evers, the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church, the March on Washington — many of the events that spring to mind when you think about the civil rights movement happened in 1963.
