An ultraconservative Kansas Tea Party group has been slammed by a local NAACP chapter for a picture of President Obama being described as a skunk that they call “racist.”

The Patriot Freedom Alliance recently posted a photo on its website with a caption:

The skunk has replaced the eagle as the new symbol for the president. It is half black, it is half white, and almost everything it does, stinks.

Area president Darrell Pope called it a “blatant act of racism”: “You would think that an organization that claims to be about patriotism and what this country is supposed to stand for would have a better way of expressing it than what they’re doing.”

The owner of the website said that it was satire in a politically incorrect form.

Satire, huh? There’s nothing funny about this. But the problem lies with the fact that the people creating these images think it’s all harmless, and will use any excuse — like saying that Sarah Palin received similar treatment — to justify their actions. Palin’s intelligence was made fun of; her heritage never was. But that seems to have slipped the minds of certain Tea Party groups and members.
