A Minnesota man lost his job after he reportedly sent racist messages to the Minneapolis chapter of Black Lives Matter last week.
According to MPR News, Brad Schultz reportedly posted a message to the group's Facebook page after learning of protests sponsored by the chapter inside the Mall of America. The message contained several expletives and called members and supporters "n—gers," CBS reports.
"The loser life deserved to get shot for not cooperating with police," the message read in part, according to MPR News. "Just leave, white people don't like you."
Schultz's message was noticed by a Facebook group called Threatwatch, which not only identifies those who post hateful messages but, in this case, encouraged others to contact Schultz's employer, Archer Daniels Midland, an agricultural processing company in Mankato, Minn.
After Schultz learned that his employer had been contacted, he reportedly asked the moderator of the Black Lives Matter Facebook page to delete his comments and apologized for the derogatory messages he sent. He added that his employer was not affiliated with his actions.
According to MPR News, the company investigated Schultz's hate-filled Facebook rant and he was terminated. "As previously stated, these remarks are unacceptable and do not reflect ADM's values," the company wrote in a statement released to the media.
On Tuesday, Minneapolis NAACP President Nekima Levy-Pounds posted a statement on Facebook noting that this is a lesson for those who believe social media is a safe place for racism.
"[H]opefully, individuals will learn from Brad Schultz's mistake and think twice before making racist statements on social media," she said.
