On Thursday a prosecutor upgraded the charges of Matthew Apperson—who was initially charged with aggravated assault and battery—to attempted second-degree murder. Zimmerman escaped the alleged scuffle in May with minor injuries when Apperson allegedly fired a gun into his vehicle during a traffic altercation. Prosecutors have argued that Apperson is fixated on Zimmerman.

State Attorney Phil Archer for Brevard and Seminole counties cited the right of individuals to be able to travel without fear.
