A jury has recommended the death sentence for a former Ku Klux Klan leader who was convicted of murdering three people at two separate Jewish facilities in Overland Park, Kan., last year, KSHB reports.

Frazier Glenn Cross, also known as Glenn Miller, was convicted on Aug. 31 of first-degree murder in the deaths of Reat Underwood, 14; Underwood’s 69-year-old grandfather, William Corporon; and Terri LaManno, 53. None of the victims were Jewish. He was also convicted on three counts of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault, the site notes.
According to KSHB, Cross pleaded for mercy and asked jurors to recommend the life sentence, saying that he suffers from emphysema, which would kill him before he is actually put to death. Cross also said that the murders were justified because he had “to save the white race from the Jewish people,” according to KSHB.
A judge will sentence Cross in October.
