On The Ellen DeGeneres Show today, singer and actress Jennifer Hudson told the host that although she's become a national spokeswoman for Weight Watchers, shrinking from a size 16 to a 6 was more about being a healthy role model for her son than an urgent need to change her appearance.

From the Huffington Post:

"I just knew, after I had my baby, I just wanted my body back. Whatever body that was," she explained of her decision to lose the weight. "And then I realized [that] when I was pregnant, I was like, 'Man, I was wearing the same clothes I was wearing before I was pregnant.' That was kind of like a wake-up call and I wanted to set a good example for my son."

Still, while the weight loss was exciting, Hudson said it doesn't define her.

"I was very comfortable. It wasn't that I couldn't do it, I just didn't see anything wrong with it. I still don't. I liked who I was then, and I like who I am now."

Good answer. Stars like Hudson and Raven Symone seem to have struck a good balance when it comes to navigating Hollywood's obsession with size: They accept compliments for slimming down but focus on health, refusing to imply that they were worthless or unattractive when they were a few sizes bigger.
