Student-athletes have returned to campus as summer football camps have started at the University of Colorado. But there is one person who is noticeably absent from training in Boulder, head coach Deion Sanders. The former NFL and Major League Baseball player is at home in Canyon, Texas dealing with an "unspecified health issue,' according to USA Today.

The outlet reported that in a June 8 livestream on YouTube, Sanders's oldest son Deion Jr. said his father is "feeling well" but gave no information on his health issues or when he would return to Colorado.
“He’ll tell y’all soon enough what he going through, what he went through,” he said. “When we get back in Boulder, I don’t know. I’m waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I’ll go. Until then, I’m gonna sit here with him.”
Concerns about Sanders's health have been growing since the usually outspoken athlete has remained out of the public eye since the NFL draft in April. In 2023, he underwent surgery for blood clots in his left leg. Most recently, he cancelled a June 8 appearance at the Sickle Cell Disease Research and Educational Symposium, where he was scheduled to be the keynote speaker.
When asked about his father's condition, Sanders's youngest son, Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders said he doesn't know what's going on.
"I'm here not to talk about pops and them. I'm here for the quarterback of the Cleveland Browns... I’m focused on learning this playbook and everything I’ve got to do to be the most successful quarterback I can be and be the best teammate I can be. Outside of that, I don't really have no thoughts or really opinions on it," he said in a press conference after a June 10 minicamp practice.
While fans pray for the best outcome, Sanders shared a message of hope with his nearly two million followers in a June 10 post on X, writing:
"Let's attack today with all we have. Let's give today everything we got. Let's not save ourselves for tomorrow knowing tomorrow ain't promised. Let's go all out baby. I believe in you & you Believe in what God has bestowed upon u. Let's go! #CoachPrime."
Fans in the comments responded with their own words of encouragement for the Hall of Famer.
"You got this Coach and God has you. You take care of everyone else. It's now time to take care of you! This too shall pass!" wrote someone.
