Attorneys for former President Donald Trump and his co-defendants argued that Willisโ€™ relationship with special counsel Nathan Wade created the โ€œappearance of a conflict of interest.โ€

Trumpโ€™s โ€œstar witness,โ€ Terrence Bradley, who is also Wadeโ€™s former law partner, appeared in court on Tuesday. But it was hardly the slam dunk Trump world had been hyping up.

At issue in Bradleyโ€™s testimony was the timeline of Wade and Willisโ€™ relationship โ€” which theyโ€™ve both testified under oath began after he started working on her team. If theyโ€™re lying about the timeline it could put both of their legal careers in serious jeopardy, but Trumpโ€™s team would have to prove it first.

During his testimony, Bradley acknowledged that he texted Trumpโ€™s attorney that Willis and Wadeโ€™s relationship โ€œabsolutelyโ€ began before she hired him.

However, the rest of his testimony was less beneficial to The Trump team. Bradley testified that he had no personal knowledge of the relationship between Willis and Wade and that he was โ€œspeculatingโ€ about the timeline. โ€œI never witnessed anything,โ€ Bradley told the courtroom. He also said he couldnโ€™t recall any specific dates related to the start of their relationship.

Trumpโ€™s legal team had been billing Bradley as a star witness. But his vague answers didnโ€™t exactly scream pivotal testimony.

At Fridayโ€™s hearing, his legal team said that Bradleyโ€™s messages proved that the relationship had begun prior to Wadeโ€™s hiring. But the Judge seemed skeptical.

โ€œIs it ever definitively shown how he knew this and that he actually did know it?โ€ the judge asked. โ€œOther than just an assertion outright? โ€˜Absolutely.โ€™ Usually if a state has a witness that goes sideways, theyโ€™ve got him locked in. Theyโ€™ve sat down with a detective and got a full statement. We donโ€™t have that here.โ€

The judgeโ€™s skepticism aside, the fact that this is happening at all screams trouble for Willis. And weโ€™ll all have to wait and see how this ruling shakes out.
