Why Did Candace Owens Call Fani Willis A “Ghetto Superstar?!”

District Attorney Fani Willis is taking a lot of heat from conservative trolls, but Candace Owens' latest attack might be the most racist thing we've heard yet.

Professional troll Candace Owens truly outdid herself last week, dropping one of the most racist podcasts we’ve ever heard.

Owens’ target was none other than Fulton County, Ga. District Attorney Fani Willis, whom she called a β€œghetto superstar.” And if you think that’s bad, wait till you hear the rest of what Owens had to say.

Video will return here when scrolled back into view

On Thursday, Willis took the stand to defend herself against a motion to remove her from the Georgia election interference case. Attorneys for former President Donald Trump and other co-defendants in the case alleged that Willis’ relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade tainted the proceedings.

While many people praised Willis’ passionate self-advocacy, Owens had a very different take.

In the headline of her podcast, Owens called Willis a β€œghetto superstar,” adding that β€œLove and Hip Hop” should give her and her special prosecutor Wade a call. She then proceeded to play several clips of Willis’ testimony, summarizing them in the most racist way humanly possible.

β€œYa, you heard her right, she don’t do her friends like that,” said Owens, mocking what she described as Willis’ use of β€œebonics.”

During another clip, Owens paraphrased Willis’ testimony about the financial situation in her relationship with Wade, saying β€œFani Willis, she don’t done need no man.”

Mind you, Willis does not talk like that. (But even if she did, it’s 2024, are we still really making fun of AAVE?!)

Owens also took the opportunity to stand on her anti-DEI soapbox. β€œThe biggest argument against DEI is Fani Willis,” said Owens, implying that the district attorney was a diversity hire.

To be clear, you can feel any way you want about Willis, but calling her a diversity hire is not it. Willis previously served as deputy Fulton County district attorney for 17 years. After she left that office, she served as chief magistrate judge of South Fulton County, Ga. and was managing attorney of her own law office. Willis then beat out the incumbent district attorney to win her current position.

But sure... she’s a diversity hire.

There’s a lot more in Owens’ rant, like calling Willis’ testimony β€œso ghetto,” but this feels like more than enough Candace Owens for one day.
