As black women, we occasionally have to deal with white people asking to touch our hair. Whether they’re fascinated by the curls, locs or intricate styles, there’s always a time in a black woman’s life when she feels like she’s on display at a hair petting zoo. You may have felt the urge to smack someone’s hand when asked if they could touch your hair, but didn’t. Technically, I’ve smacked several people, but that’s neither hair nor there (pun intended). Now, though, there’s a game where you can do just that.

“Hair Nah,” which was created by Momo Pixel, is an interactive game that allows you to design your character, and the goal is to smack away as many white hands as you can. And since its launch, it’s been the talk of social media:

Pixel, who is an art director at Wieden+Kennedy, co-published the game with the agency. In an interview with On She Goes, she explained why she created the video game.

“I’ll be walking, and a woman will reach her hands into my head. I’m talking to a teammate, and a co-worker I just met is holding my hair in his hand,” she said. “The moment someone mentions my hair, I grab it to claim ownership.”

She added: “Who I’m really hoping to get are those women and men who may not really be paying attention to their actions or don’t see them as offensive. I hope they see themselves in this game and be like, ‘Oh my God.’ And then from there stop doing it.”

Head over to Hair Nah and fill your day by smacking the hands away.
