As we reported, Sharpe was being sued by an accuser who claimed the former NFL star physically abused her and even threatened to kill her. Now, the accuser has reportedly settled the lawsuit for undisclosed terms, according to the New York Times.
“Both sides acknowledge a long-term consensual and tumultuous relationship,” Tony Buzbee, the lawyer representing the accuser, said in a statement shared to his social media on Friday afternoon. “After protracted and respectful negotiations, I’m pleased to announce that we have reached a mutually agreed upon resolution. All matters have now been addressed satisfactorily, and the matter is closed.”
Tony Buzbee did not respond to a request from The Root for comment.
Since the lawsuit was filed earlier this year, Sharpe denied any wrongdoing, as we reported. He alleged then that the two were engaged in a consensual relationship, citing highly explicit text messages as proof. A representative for Shannon Sharpe also did not respond to a request for comment from The Root.
Sharpe experienced a significant professional fallout in the wake of the lawsuit news, postponing his eight-city “Nightcap NSFW” Tour he was set to embark on with Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson to 2026.
He also stepped away from his role at ESPN as an analyst in April. At the time, he shared in a statement, “at this juncture, I am electing to step aside temporarily from my ESPN duties.” He did, however, add that he planned on returning at the “start of the NFL preseason.” ESPN has not confirmed whether or not this will be the case.
Sharpe has, however, continued to host his popular YouTube show, “Club Shay Shay” and his “Nightcap” podcast.
