Kwame Kilpatrick, the embattled and imprisoned former mayor of Detroit, is hoping that the U.S. Supreme Court will overturn his 28-year prison sentence, the Associated Press reports.

Kilpatrick was found guilty of some two dozen crimes in 2013. His charges included tax evasion and bribery, according to AP.
Kilpatrick recently filed the request asking the Supreme Court to review his case after a federal appeals court informed Kilpatrick in August that it had no interest in taking a second look at his case.
According to AP, “Kilpatrick’s appeal has centered on an alleged conflict among his trial attorneys, among other very technical reasons. He quit office in another scandal in 2008.”
