A 41-year-old woman landed herself in jail after she allegedly sent a text message to the wrong person — essentially the opposite of the person she meant to text.

It all started on New Years Eve when Octavia Wells was headed to rehab, according to the New York Post. At some point that day, she texted a man asking to schedule a meeting to buy fentanyl. According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Wells offered to pay $45 for “a couple of points” of the drug.

In the incriminating texts, Wells identified herself as “Octavia” and arranged the drug transaction. From here, she met the man at a gas station she thought was her dealer, according to WTVY. But instead, she was met by narcotics officers who arrested her on the spot.

The woman then learned she’d texted the wrong person while arranging the drug buy. According to the Post, she contacted Stephen Pettijohn, an investigator with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office known as “PJ.” Wells, however, meant to text another man who she told police has a similar name to the investigator, according the arrest report obtained by the Smoking Gun.

An arresting cop said Wells “allowed me to look in her phone and I confirmed that the phone...was the same one that she was using to text Inv. Pettijohn,” according to the arrest report.

Police say Wells had a “previous iteration” with Pettijohn, but they did not give details about the exact nature of their relationship. When the investigator got the text message from Wells about the drug buy, he decided to go undercover, posing as a drug dealer.

According to Florida police, Wells was charged with unlawful use of a two-way communication device, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.

Since her arrest, Wells posted $5,000 bond and was released, according to jail records. She is scheduled for a January 30 arraignment.
