However, according to the New York Times, the legal proceedings havenโ€™t deterred Wilson, 28, from quietly wedding his girlfriend and colleague Barbara Spradling, 37, about a month ago.

The Times notes that the couple got their marriage license at the office of the recorder of deeds in Clayton, Mo., outside of St. Louis, a stoneโ€™s throw away from the courthouse where the grand jury has been meeting.

An employee at the marriage-license desk told the Times on Monday that she was surprised Wilson did not go out of the county or state to obtain the license, where he would have had a better guarantee of privacy.

The official wedding date, according to the Times, was Oct. 24. Greg Kloeppell, one of Wilson's lawyers, was one of the two witnesses at the wedding.

Wilson, as the Times notes, has been on paid administrative leave since the fatal Aug. 9 shooting of Brown, which has led to both citywide and national unrest. He has managed to stay out of the public eye, evading appearances since the day he shot and killed Brown.ย
