No justice, no San Francisco. Those are the sentiments of conservatives after Jose Ines Garcia Zarate was found not guilty in the death of Kate Steinle, a white woman who was shot and killed in 2015 on a pier in San Francisco, which is a sanctuary city when it comes to undocumented immigrants like Zarate.
Zarate, a five-time-deported Mexican citizen, wasn’t convicted of murder charges in Steinle’s death, but was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to CNN.
Zarate’s defense attorneys said the bullet accidentally hit Steinle after Zarate found the gun under a bench and then attempted to aim at a seal. Prosecutors charged that he was playing his own version of Russian roulette with a gun that had been stolen from an off-duty agent for the Bureau of Land Management.
On Thursday night, Donald Trump, of course, weighed in on the verdict on Twitter:
Shortly thereafter, #BoycottSanFrancisco became a trending topic:
Zarate faces a sentence of 16 months to three years in prison, as well as deportation.
I’m pretty sure those who are using an app based in San Francisco to #BoycottSanFrancisco were pretty silent when George Zimmerman got off after killing Trayvon Martin, not to mention regarding the countless cases of other murdered black people whom the justice system has failed.
