A New Orleans woman is calling on her community to boycott a local café she said showed her anything but good customer service. In a now-viral TikTok post from July 18, Destinee K said she was harassed by the manager of Rue De La Course, a café she patronizes all the time, because she didn’t make a purchase right away.

“I was harassed, threatened, and had the police weaponized against me – simply for sitting without a purchase while finishing work due at 10:30 AM,” she captioned her post. “I clearly stated I’d order once the task was done, but was still told to leave, despite empty tables.”
In her video, Destinee can be heard explaining to the manager (who is a white woman) that she is a frequent customer and was planning to purchase something once she submitted her work.
“I come in here too many times. I do work in here all the time,” she says in the video. “If I already told you I’m going to buy something, why continue to bother me?”
But the manager was not willing to wait, and threatened to get the police involved if Destinee did not leave the business – a threat that didn’t seem to scare Destinee at all.
“Let her call the cops. Let her call them,” she said.
Some outraged commenters felt the cafe should have been happy that Destinee chose their location to do her work. With over 3,600 followers on TikTok, she may have been able to help attract new customers.
“You filming in there could’ve given them free promo but instead they chose to profile you! I’m sorry you went through that,” wrote someone in the comments.
Others suggested Destinee take her business somewhere it’s appreciated.
“Don’t let no one tell you twice that they don’t want you here. Stop doing business with them and walk away,” wrote someone else in the comments.
