Black Twitter Annoyed With Obamas For ‘Going High’ With Trump In Post-Election Statement

If the roles were reversed, we doubt Trump and J.D. Vance would have returned the favor.

On Wednesday, former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama released a statement congratulating Donald Trump and JD Vance on their presidential victory.

โ€œThis is obviously not the outcome we had hoped for, given our profound disagreements with the Republican ticket on a whole host of issues,โ€ the joint statement reads. โ€œBut living in a democracy is about recognizing that our point of view wonโ€™t always win out, and being willing to accept the peaceful transfer of power.โ€

The Obamas once again chose to โ€œgo highโ€ in their message, but considering how low Republicans have gone (Trump still hasnโ€™t admitted he lost the 2020 presidential election), folks are wondering: did the esteemed couple need to take the high road?

One user, @mnyomb1, believes that the Obamasโ€™ efforts were in vain. โ€œThank you Mr. President for standing up for democracy they wonโ€™t appreciate you. But we GenZ appreciated your effort in Kamala Harris Campaign,โ€ they wrote.

However, another personality on X insisted that the statement from the former first couple isnโ€™t enough. โ€œI canโ€™t find the part in the statement where you actually congratulate Trump,โ€ @adrian_wamp lamented.

Another X user, @AbrahamSte17914, believes that Barack and Michelle Obama have done enough for this country and deserve a break. โ€œThank you for acknowledging and congratulating President - Elect Donald Trump but for you is high time you go and rest like many other former US Presidents...โ€

On Instagram, Barackโ€™s post where he shared the joint remarks was flooded with positivity. One commenter, @cherae.lynn, wrote: โ€œ*sigh* Iโ€™m saying thoughโ€ฆcan you be the first president to have three terms?โ€

However, @thecoreyshow insisted: โ€œWhy are we always being the bigger person. Trump should be in jail. Itโ€™s time for the party to match their energy.โ€

The Obamasโ€™ statement came just before Vice President Kamala Harrisโ€™s concession speech from Howard University in Washington, D.C.

โ€œWhile I concede this election. I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign,โ€ Harris said. โ€œI will never give up a fight for a future where Americans can pursue their dreams ambitions and aspirations.โ€
