On Sunday, former President Barack Obama (still better than our current) took to Twitter to express his condolences.

Obama noted that Berry “rolled over everyone who came before him—and turned up everyone who came after.”

Other celebrities, including Mick Jagger and Bruno Mars, also posted their thoughts about the legend on Twitter:

During a phone call with my grandmother, she told the story about the time she attended a concert in New Orleans and was brought onstage to hold Berry’s guitar while he was playing it. At the end of the song, he took off a ring and gave it to her. She still has that ring, and I’m sure that now that she’s 88 and her favorite musician has died, it means more to her than ever.
