On Sept. 26, Zymere was beaten with a broomstick in his Harlem apartment. Apparently he was beaten for defecating in a bucket.

“The cause of death is fatal child-abuse syndrome,” said Julie Bolcer, spokeswoman for the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. “The manner of death is homicide.”

According to the Post, both Zymere’s mother, Geraldine Perkins, 26, and her boyfriend Rysheim Smith, 42, had originally been charged with misdemeanor child endangerment, but both charges can be upgraded now that the autopsy has been revealed.

Old bruises found on his head and body indicate that Zymere had been hit by multiple objects over time.
