Former Florida Rep. Adam West called the focus on the terrorist group Boko Haram and the missing Nigerian girls "fishy" in a Monday column on his blog.

In the post, West points out that the girls were kidnapped almost a month ago, rendering the story nonbreaking news. He also notes that Boko Haram is well-known for its attacks in Nigeria.

"Isn't it interesting that all of a sudden when celebrities get engaged, it becomes a national emergency? Who else needs to issue a hash tag alert? But why now? As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton refused to declare Boko Haram a terrorist organization," West, who is a Fox News contributor, wrote.

He compared the focus on the girls to the movie Wag the Dog, which tells the story of a made-up war introduced in the midst of a presidential campaign in hopes that it will distract the public from other scandals. It was widely compared to Bill Clinton's actions in Afghanistan and Sudan during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

"Are we witnessing an Obama 'Wag the Dog' moment with Boko Haram in Nigeria? I say yes," the former politician added.

He cited Benghazi among the issues that the Obama administration would hope to distract the public away from, while suggesting that nothing would really be done to help the girls.

"Gotta give it to the Democrats, they know how to make life imitate art. Sadly, as a nation we're falling for another episode of liberal progressive 'Wag the Dog,' " West wrote.
