Brandi Allen says her son Brian Ogle's skull was broken in three places.

โ€œApparently he was hit with something that is presumedย to be the butt of the pistol. He has stitches andย he has real bad bruising on his shoulder. There's a lot ofย woundsย on the back of his head from being hit as well,โ€ Allenย said.

According to the report, police have not yet determined a clear motive, but Police Chief Kelley Johnson said that the attack appeared to be racially motivated, and social media could be a factor.

Allen said that the dispute started at her son's high school before winding up on Facebook. Brian, she said, received threatening messages.

โ€œMy son took it to the principal at Sylacauga High School, and I commend him for that. He showed her the threats that were being made to him, but she told him there was nothing she could do. I'm appalled,โ€ Allenย said.

Allen has flat out called her son's attack a hate crime.

โ€œInstead of us planning for his 18th birthday, we're here. Why? Because he made a statement that he backs the blue?ย I'm still trying to understand how someone, no matter the color of their skin, can do this to another human being,โ€ย she said. "This most certainly is a race issue. It's a hate crime."

Over the weekend, Chief Johnson said that police interviewed about 20 people, including witnesses, family members and persons of interest. Johnson said he had hoped to get warrants signed Monday to begin taking people into custody, but was unsure as to how long the district attorney's office would take in doing so.

โ€œI want to see them handcuffed. I want to see them put in jail," Allen said. "I don't wish any harm on anyone's child. I would like for them to have to look at my child right now. I don't want any other mother to have to go through what I went through these past few days.โ€
