The death of former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez, who was jailed for the 2013 murder of associate Odin Lloyd, has been beset by rumor, innuendo and more than a few shocks.

Hernandez hanged himself last week, and one of the narratives surrounding his surprise suicide was that he might have been high on synthetic marijuana, or “K2,” a drug that is known to elicit erratic behavior when smoked.
Toxicology tests, however, indicate that there were no drugs in his system when he died, according to WCVB5 in Boston.
The Souza Baranowski Correctional Facility in Massachusetts was under lockdown last week while officials investigated claims suggesting that the former tight end consumed K2 or another illicit drug prior to his death. Sources told the news station the prison search turned up K2 and other homemade weapons.
Hernandez showed what could be deemed erratic behavior prior to his death. Hernandez had written “John 3:16” on his forehead in ink, and investigators found that he used his own blood to draw many bizarre pictures on the prison walls.
One of the images was an “unfinished pyramid and the all-seeing eye of God,” according to the source. The word “Illuminati” was written beneath the pyramid in capital letters.
