Two years after America elected its first black president and gave Democrats control of Congress, the country is in a very different mood. "Yes We Can" optimism has given way to Tea Party anger in some parts of the land, and too many members of key voting blocs backing Barack Obama and the Democrats the last time around — such as African Americans and the under-30 set — just might sit out Election Day 2010.

How will it all shake out? Check The Root today and all week for the latest news and commentary about the elections and their outcomes. If you're checking out CNN's special election coverage on Tuesday and Wednesday, check out The Root's Cord Jefferson (Blogging The Beltway) as he weighs in on-air with other guest contributors.

And if you're in Washington, DC. don't miss our Election Night event with IMPACT at the K Street Lounge, 7-10 pm. You can RSVP here. The RSVP list is closed.
