โ€œWeโ€™re sending surrogates to places where we think it makes sense to promote our agenda,โ€ a White House official told the news agency, though adding that the freeze isnโ€™t permanent.

However, a CNN reporter also spoke to Politico and told the organization that the White House is attempting to punish the network, which Trump has labeled โ€œfake news.โ€

โ€œTheyโ€™re trying to cull CNN from the herd,โ€ the reporter said.

Politico noted that there have been no administration officials on CNN since Jan. 11, when senior counselor Kellyanne Conway appeared with Anderson Cooper.

While speaking at an event at George Washington University on Monday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer denied that CNN was being obstructed, saying that he has been answering the networkโ€™s questions at the daily briefings. However, he added, โ€œIโ€™m not going to sit around and engage with people who have no desire to actually get something right.โ€
