Black and Proud is a video series on The Root that focuses on the pride that our favorite black celebrities, tastemakers and thought leaders feel about being black. Many of them talk about our resilience and strength throughout history, some talk about our undeniable talents, while others mention our dance skills, dopeness and more.

Whatever the reasoning, it’s clear that being black is an incredible experience, despite society’s negative narratives around blackness.

Comedian, actress and all-around black-girl unicorn Jessica Williams stars in her own rom-com on Netflix (being released Friday), and during an interview about the movie, she explained why she’s proud of her blackness. She finds blackness fascinatingβ€”and from the way she wears her beautiful and glorious mane to the way she looks in a dress, Williams’ black is incredible.
