Paramount just dropped the first trailer for Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, the six-part documentary centered around the life and death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin that is being produced by Jay-Z.
The docuseries, which is based off the book Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, written by Trayvon’s parents, premieres July 30 at 10 p.m on the Paramount Network.
Footage in the docuseries includes interviews with Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, as well as activists such as Angela Rye, Rev. Al Sharpton, Angela Davis, Carmelo Anthony, and more (h/t Complex). It will also include news footage, home videos and family photos.
Martin’s death in 2012 at the hands of neighborhood watchman (and plague on society) George Zimmerman was one of the horrific killings of unarmed black boys and men that sparked the Black Lives Matter movement.
Jay-Z, who has been lending his hand in advocating for criminal-justice reform, also produced a docuseries on Kalief Browder, who was arrested at 16 and held in Rikers Island for three years while awaiting trial after being falsely accused of stealing a backpack. Browder, who spent significant time in solitary confinement while at Rikers, would later kill himself two years after being released.
