The Rev. Al Sharpton, who’s still filling in on MSNBC, asked last night’s Ed Show guests whether all future votes on raising the debt ceiling would be held hostage by the political opposition. The unanimous response was that they would be, as long as there’s a Democrat in the White House.

Michael Eric Dyson had the harshest assessment of the situation:

“Once having been successful at blindfolding the American public, putting a gun to the president’s head, forcing him to sign into law this extraordinary act of unpatriotic and irrational frenzy — I think they are now emboldened; they will now take this as a blueprint.”

Well, that’s depressing. Is Dyson right, or there anything to the more hopeful take that Obama’s soft-on-Republican extremism approach is actually part of a master plan? Let us know in the comments section.
